Hilary Armstrong FCA
Hilary is originally from Galway however he spend some 10 years in Skerries, North Dublin before moving to Newry in 1990. Hilary holds 3 A grades at A Levels from St Colman’s College in Newry. Upon completion of his A-Levels, Hilary graduated from Queens University of Belfast with a First Class Honors Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics which he obtained in 1998.
Hilary began a training contract with Daly Park & Company in Newry and he achieved first time passes in his Professional 3 & FAE examinations accumulating with a top ten placement in his Final Admitting Exams in 2001.
In December 2001, Hilary joined W J Miscampbell & Co to further his knowledge in Corporate Finance and Forensic Accounting. In August 2002, Hilary was approached by a Belfast head-hunter with a view to joining a new business centre for Ulster Bank in Newry. At Ulster Bank, Hilary was quickly promoted to Manager and laterally Senior Manager before leaving in April 2008. During his time with Ulster Bank, Hilary gained significant experience in SME Lending, Structured Finance, Asset Backed Lending (primarily invoice finance), Treasury and Internal audit. In April 2008, Hilary was once again head-hunted by Alliance & Leicester Wholesale Bank were he was responsible for growing a corporate lending portfolio in Northern Ireland. In October 2008, Alliance & Leicester was acquired by Santander UK plc and Hilary remained with this organisation until August 2015. During his time with Santander, Hilary was a Senior Relationship Manager, Relationship Director and Deputy Regional Director for Northern Ireland. Santander as a Global Banking giant has provided Hilary with detailed knowledge of Trade Finance, Treasury and a customer centric approach to client relationship management which he now carries into H Armstrong & Associates Ltd. Hilary is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.
Hilary is an avid golfer, having represented Ulster, Northern Ireland, Ireland and GB&I at various levels during the years. He remains a 1 handicap to this day. Hilary is also a proud family man with a young family.
